Nov. 3rd, 2007 07:41 pmI think I should make sure that this stuff is clear:
When I talk about choices I've made for my body, and the things that have happened as a result, I'm definitely not asking for approval. I'm also not preaching. I'm not gloating, or asking for pats on the back or for people to agree with my choices, or meaning for them to take what I say as some kind of agenda against fat. That's just not what this is, PERIOD. I'm ALWAYS going to be fat-positive. I'm ALWAYS going to be against the way that our culture asks us to change our bodies to fit an ideal, and punishes us in a variety of ways when we opt not to buy into it. The choices I make for my body and my life are not meant to be read as a position against fatness, because I am PRO bodies and their diversity. And plus, I'm never (never EVER) going to want that "ideal" that is so marketed to us; it's unsexy, unimaginitive, and uninteresting, not to mention IMPOSSIBLE and UNHEALTHY.
I shouldn't even have to apologize for what I'm doing and saying by restating that I LIKE being fat and that fatness is a really important part of my identity. But I'm saying it anyway, because I want to make sure I'm not being misunderstood.
