So... me n Shan left here yesterday around 3:15 to go to Imperial Tattoo. Got there, filled out paperwork, approved a design, and found out that guests are not allowed back with the tattooee. I followed Bob to the back of the shop, where he offered me mints, chatted me up, and placed the designs. He snapped pictures and then I leaned back in the chair and he got to work.
Honestly, it was overall more painful on my chest than the tattoo on my back when I was getting that one. Just in general, the skin is more senstive. It didn't really hurt, though, until he got right on top of my collarbones and close to my neck. That was definitely a bit sting-y.
As he worked, we chatted about his love for his job, the fact that we both have Harley dads, why we wouldn't EVER cover up or change tattoos that represnted an ex boyfriend/girlfriend. We also touched on religion, Morrissey, emo, college tenure, and several other fabulous topics. I kinda felt connected to him... Bob was really nice and thoughtful and a good conversationalist. I let him know that I wanted to get a chubby pinup girl on my arm, maybe next semester, if I have the money. His very words were, "If the money is the problem, I can give you a REALLY good deal on it." I love this man. He is MY tattoo artist.
He kept letting me get up to take pictures or show Shan the work at that point or walk around a bit. I had to do the walking because after the first bird, my nerves were a little frazzled and whenever he took the needles off my skin, my left knee would jump. Yeah, weird, but the walking helped, and Bob was just a pretty soothing guy.
Between stages, he would wet a paper towel and lovingly wipe at the tattoos. I could tell he was really into my tattoos, which I totally dug. He did the stars and dots freehand and I loooove the way they turned out... After roughly 2 and a half hours, we were done. Blissed out on endorphins, I stood for pictures and walked around showing all the other artists, and Shan and the other people in the waiting room. Bob told me they'd be $140, which was an *amazing* deal. I tipped him $20 and then bought a green and black t-shirt. He tried to send me home with, like, every sticker and magnet in the store, so I have lotsa Imperial Tattoo swag now.
I'm going home this weekend so Mom and Dad (etc.) can see my babies in person, plus I'm hanging out with my fabulous friends, First Girlfriend Ever and Abby.
And behind the cut, you can see more of Andromeda and Anstice. <3 birdie love <3
