Here's the first paragraph of my Literary Theory paper:
Margaret Atwood’s novel, Surfacing, was published in 1972, at the height of the women’s liberation movement. Women in the United States were rallying for equality, freedom over their own reproductive rights, and to be recognized alongside men for their talents and skills in all fields. In Atwood’s novel, themes synonymous with the times appear consistently throughout. Although much of the book is set in the wilderness of French Canada, postmodern ideas find ways to creep through the text. The passages where postmodernism meets the ideas of female friendship, motherhood, and women’s art prove to be the most insightful, painting us a very intimate picture of Atwood’s “new woman.”
Thoughts? Wishes of good luck? Interweb kisses?
PS: I am also working on a very twee mix CD while I write. It will be jangly and happy and no one will be able to frown while listening to it.
