No, not free, definitely. The price varies, depending on where you are, but here it is $60 to join and $44 a month for one adult. I applied for financial aid, and am only paying $20 a month, so it's much more reasonable and I'm paid up for one year. And at my YMCA, there is a big pool indoors and an even bigger one outside (and both are heated, I think).
