Sep. 29th, 2006 04:46 pmThere is so much to talk about!
- Last night I went to a show with J. Gordon. Bishop Allen (enjoyed them a LOT), the Starlight Mints (eh.), and Mates of State (DROOL! x 100). I was a very tired princess, almost falling asleep during the second band, but I perked up for the Mates. Sung my little heart out, of course, and was excited that J. Gordon chose to put his arms around my wiggly personage during certain songs, during all the right songs. FUN!
- I get to see my Floridian best friend in the middle of October! He's coming to Philly to see a show and I get to hug him and stay up late talking to him!! Oh, that darling muffin!
- My mom is purchasing, as an early Christmas present, a ticket so that I can accompany her to Las Vegas, where we will meet up with my grandma and have a Three-Generation Ladies' Vegas Hoedown. It's gonna happen in early December, after my grandma is rested up from a round of radiation therapy that will hopefully kick the ass of the very sneaky cancer that showed up in her abdomen again. I can't wait to see her and tell her how strong I think she is.
- Work has its ups and downs, but mostly things have been going better than I'd been expecting. I've won some fans in my class of 4th graders. I can tell because I get little pictures at the end of the day, pictures of people or flowers or baseball players, that say, "To my nice teacher!" I've started hanging them up on the chalkboard behind my desk. We had a fire drill today that was highly embarrassing, since my class exited the building all screaming and jumping around and laughing and punching each other. There was a phone call to the parent of one of the major offenders, and after that things settled down enough to take a spelling test and a test on comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar. I am starting to like my job a little, which is much better than dreading it.
My favorite thing so far that a student has given me, because I think it just NEEDS to be shared, is a letter from one funny little girl in my afternoon class. She wrote, on probably the worst day I've had yet, "Dear Ms. B_____, I do not want you to be a sturgeling (struggling) teacher and get a bad headacke. I don't want you to have to be a screaming teacher or sturgeling. Love, A_____."
- Lots of smaller things that are less worthy of mention...
In the battle between good days and bad days, good days seem to be winning lately. Or maybe today was just a good enough day that that SEEMS to be the case. Either way, I'll take it!
