Apr. 18th, 2006 07:56 amOh, so my dad is trying to sell me on getting a Chevy HHR LS as my first NEW car, once I'm done with school and have job. I went to the website and looked at what he was talking about and while my first impression was "Ugh, that's ugly," I wanted to sort of unpack the pros and cons here.

Here it is.

And for some perspective on relative size, I found this picture of the HHR LS with... the band Antigone Rising. Uh-huh.
Pros:
- My dad said he could assist in the purchasing because he's got miles from buying his truck a couple of years ago. I assume that miles are a reward system or something? Cash back, perhaps, on future purchases?
- Two of my three cars have been station wagons, so I'm comfortable with them. The HHR is sort of like a station wagon.
- If I take my dad's suggestion, I know I can always go to him when I have a problem with the car. He'll be all, "Man, I encouraged her to get that, so I should help her out with [insert vehicular issue here]."
- A new car, no matter what, is a pro.
Cons:
- It's kind of ugly. Looks like a PT Cruiser with a shot of SUV and half a shot of 1950's surfer wagon.
- It's 5 inches longer than what I drive now; when you do a lot of Philly parking, that sort of matters.
- Gas mileage is not quite as good as what I'm driving now (a 1994 Ford Escort station wagon). I want to be a consciencious consumer, you know?
Hrm. Maybe I can point my dad toward some other Chevy?
